Being a Mary when every part in you wants to act like a Sarah

Being a Mary when every part in you wants to act like a Sarah

Sometimes we want to operate in faith but still be a realist. We say we believe God can do the impossible but when the impossible presents itself, we laugh.

Faith

“Where is your wife Sarah?” they asked him. “There, in the tent,” he said. Then one of them said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son.” Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him. Abraham and Sarah were already very old, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing. So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, “After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?” Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Will I really have a child, now that I am old?’ Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.”  – Genesis 18:9-14
Aren’t we often times just like Sarah?! The moment a situation seems impossible/ unrealistic, we doubt, we lose hope, we laugh. You’d be surprised how many people struggle with the lack of faith. I know a bit too well that it is not easy to have faith when all feels uncertain. But believing in what we cannot see is what faith is all about. It is not a feeling, it is a choice – especially in the uncertainty. A choice we have to make each day in order to see the hand of God move.

“Blessed is she who believed that the Lord will fulfill His promises to her” – Luke 1:45

Now unlike Sarah, Mary did not laugh. Mary believed the Word of the Lord the moment she was told that she would give birth to the Messiah, while being a virgin. I mean, you would think if there was someone that had a valid reason to doubt, that would be Mary, right?! But she did not – she chose to believe that the Lord would fulfill His promises to her. Two women, same promise, different story. One was like “this must be a joke right?” And the other went into complete surrender and chose to let God handle it.

His promises

Blessed is she who believes all she is going through is to prepare her for the woman she was created to be.

We might not know how, where or when, but one thing we can be sure of is that God will fulfill His promises regardless how impossible or unrealistic it may all look. Just like Mary, blessed is she who believes all she is going through is to prepare her for the woman she was created to be. Blessed are those who blindly lay down their future plans, goals and heart’s desires, in His hands. Do not get discouraged, everything is possible with God.
