“I have nothing to wear!” are always my words when I have someplace to go. My clothes are stuffed in my closet, mind you, but I have not one thing to put on! Feel me? You’ve been there too and probably uttered these very words this morning!
The one outfit that truly matters
I spend a lot of time thinking about my outfit, especially for a special occasion! I am so careful in my planning from my earrings right down to my undergarments! Then, I spend even more time spinning around in front of the mirror making sure I look good from all angles. Every detail seems very important to complete the look I’m trying to achieve. As women, most of us love pretty clothes, jewelry and shoes. It’s just part of our DNA…and there is nothing wrong in wanting to look our best. As a matter of fact, a pretty outfit makes me feel beautiful and I am more confident to step out of my front door. I love that feeling!
So here’s the question I asked myself as I searched through my closet this morning, “Kelly, why do you not put this effort into making sure you dress yourself in the one outfit that truly matters?” Sweet sisters, how much time do you spend putting on the full armor of God every single day?
Ephesians 6: 10-18 says, 10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle, you will still be standing firm.14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
After reading these verses, I know I need every single piece of this armor! Our daily lives are constantly bombarded with satan’s schemes! We need to be fully protected and prepared to face each day confidently with His Holy Spirit not only in us but also upon us! When we do, all those around us will know that there is just something different. There will be a presence about us they just can’t explain! We will have an attractiveness that doesn’t come from our outward appearance!
Dressed for success
Perhaps the greatest benefit of all is that satan will have a difficult time getting to us when we are not “dressed to impress” but rather “dressed for success” in Christ. I challenge each of us to begin every day reading this scripture and praying that each piece is properly placed deep inside our hearts! if we do, I imagine that our lives will be very different! Our homes will be better! Our marriages and relationships will be better! Our workplace will better! The world around us will be better!
Now listen here girls, I will still wear my earrings and perfectly match heels…But there is nothing that is more beautiful than a confident woman in Jesus Christ! Her beauty will be radiant to all around her. Isn’t God good? He allows His daughters to be beautiful and radiant even while wearing armor for battle! He truly does give us the desires of our hearts!
