When was the last time you were faced with a big challenge? Did you think that you would be able to overcome it? Sometimes we are faced with a challenge and we don’t understand why we are faced with it, but its a test… a test of our faith. What do you do when faced with a tough decision do you go to God and ask for His help and for Him to help you understand what you need to do? Or do you think about just giving up? It easy to throw our hands up and give up but one thing that happens is after going through that hard situation, something amazing happens that shows how God is awesome and He will take care of us.
Challenges
You got this! You’re doing good! Keep going Kay-Kay! You’re almost there! These were some of the things being said to me as I was for the first time in my life up 50 feet from the ground, trying to get from one side to the other. It was a challenge that I can say that I am proud of to this day. Have I been faced with bigger challenges? Yes of course, but when I think about this particular challenge, not only did it remind me that I have an awesome support group behind me, but it also reminds that I can do anything I put my mind and my heart to.
It was eleventh grade and JROTC decided to go to a training camp called ATU. It was an overnight trip. We learned map skills, how to camp outside, working together and more. But one of the biggest challenges was doing a 50 ft. obstacle course. It was optional but I still made the decision to go for it, something that I wasn’t used to doing on my own. Anyway me and some friends decided that if we were going to do it, we would at least do it together, so we headed over and started trying to figure out what order we would go in.
Scary moments
It started off me being like the third or fourth to go up in our group but then I noticed, the closer we got to the stairs, the more I realized that my friends who were in front of me, were now behind me. I ended up being the only one out of our group to go up, once I got up there it took a few tries before I could actually walk across the first rope, and once I started I couldn’t turn back. It was a scary moment, and even though I had on a harness, it still scared me. After all of the freezing up and almost having a complete breakdown, I made it across and was cheered on by my friends and other people who were watching.
Thinking about that time now still brings a smile to my face. Yes, it was a cool memory to have but sometimes, when faced with a challenge we can feel alone. Even if nobody is physically around, we have to remember that God is always with us. I had a harness on to help keep me from hitting the ground if I fell off the course. That’s how we should look at challenges in our lives. Sometimes we might feel like we can’t do it or it’s too hard, we may even feel like we are going to fall But just like a harness, God will catch us when we fall and He will hold us up.
I made it through
We face different challenges every day. These challenges also come as a test of our faith. God wants us to trust Him and to come to Him when things get hard. It’s easy to say the words I give up or I can’t do this anymore and it can also be hard to admit when we need help sometimes, but God does not give us these challenges to punish us, He does it to help us.
When my dad passed away, my cousin would constantly call me to check on me and encourage me. One thing that he said that has always stayed with me was, God doesn’t put things on us that we can handle. And guess what…ITS TRUE!! I made it through my dad’s death, I made it through high school, and so many more challenges that I have been faced with. Before I end this blog for today. I would like to leave you with one of my favorite scriptures. When I was in sixth grade and was struggling in school, my mom would have us say this scripture together each morning, and it’s a scripture we still recite when faced with a challenge.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
