I was having coffee with a friend a couple years ago, when she said something that really rocked my world… She said, “One of the biggest revelations God has given me is realizing that presence is the greatest gift you can ever give anyone.”
The Bible is called God-inspired, and I believe it really is. This makes it all the more amazing that the lives of the men and women in the Bible are not made ‘more holy’ than they were. God meant them to be just as they are with all their strengths and weaknesses. This time I’d like to share about Judah’s daughter in law.
On October 3 rd of 1863, the late president Abraham Lincoln of America declared “Thanksgiving” a holiday in America. It is normally the 4 th Thursday of November. It was modeled after the New England colonist harvest feast. They were accustomed to regularly celebrating “Thanks Giving” days of prayer – thanking God for blessings such as military victory or end of a drought.
The story of Rahab is one of the most amazing biblical examples we have of an individual’s faith and of God’s Mercy. Rahab, a Canaanite prostitute who lived in Jericho before the Israelites destroyed the city, is considered one of the most prominent people of faith found in Hebrews 11. The people of Jericho did not believe in God and did not obey Him… but Rahab did believe and acted according to her faith. She received Gods mercy and His grace by her faith.
Just imagine once you’re in heaven and meet all the men and women you read about in the Bible… with whom would you like to chat? Of course, we will spend eternity there, so I assume we can speak to many. I have some favorites, but there is an Old Testament prophet I would like to meet in person especially and that is Habakkuk.
Seasons are a part of life. Just as the leaves turn to rusty hues and the cold winds blow away the warmth, so do our lives change. There are times of darkness, times of light, days to plant and years to reap.
The story of Sarah, one of the matriarchs in the Bible. She was a woman of faith. She had to wait for years, but God fulfilled His promise to her.
And suddenly a violent storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was being covered by the
waves; but Jesus was sleeping… (Matthew 8:24)
In this scripture Jesus Himself is giving us the perfect example of what to do during a storm. Keep on sleeping, not worth losing any sleep over it, because as another scripture says: Matt 6:27 AMP – And who by you by worrying can add one hour to (the length of) his life? Now I know it’s way easier said than done. Once you are in the midst of whatever you are struggling with (Your storm), it is hard to see the light, keep the faith and continue sleeping when all the worries keep you in fact awake. But I am here to say…..Trust and keep on sleeping.
Do you like to eat a salad? And do you put seeds in it? Healthy and tasty pine nuts, pumpkin seeds etc. But by eating these seeds, we don’t let them come to their full potential.
