The other day one of my girlfriends said something that was just the reminder I needed, “you need to trust the timing of your life; trust that it will happen; claim it and believe it.” She was absolutely right.
His way; His time
I’m not gonna lie, it’s hard. It’s hard to just sit and wait without a hint of knowing how things are going to unfold. We’ve acquired the ‘fast food’ mentality. The mentality of wanting it right away while losing the true meaning of patience.
When God promised Abraham that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars, he believed it. He believed that God was able to do what He said he would do even though he and his wife Sarah could not have any children. But after waiting for quite some time, both became impatient. Therefore, Sarah decided to come up with a plan to ‘help’ God fulfill His promise. Girlfriend suggested her husband to sleep with the maid. She told him, “Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps I can build a family through her” (Genesis 16:2). But of course, that wasn’t what God meant when He told Abraham that his son will be his heir. Desperate moments can make do crazy things. Long story short, Abraham ended up conceiving a son with Hagar (the maid) and eventually his wife Sarah. But considering Isaac (Sarah’s child) was the son of the promise, only he received the inheritance of Abraham. This brought strife within their household; a strife that is still going on to this day between the descendants of Isaac (Jews) and the descendants of Ishmael (Arabs). Now how different would things be today if Sarah had just waited on God’s timing?!
Why Wait
God’s timing is perfect. When He makes us wait, it is for the following reasons:
- to increase our faith;
- to build our character;
- for the glory of His name, not for the praise of man.
Be patient and trust the timing of your life.
“..through faith and patience, inherit what has been promised” (Hebrew 6:12).
