Share His story by sharing yours

I love to teach about Gods word, so the children in my class know their teachers favorite subject: Religion. And last week we talked about the great commision Jesus gave His disciples and how He tells them they will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on them. And they will be His witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (Matthew 28:19, Acts 1:8). We talked about how amazing it is that without the internet, airplanes and television, the gospel was spread and nowadays there are over 2 billion Christians. So these disciples did a pretty good job in sharing the good news. We talked about how important it is to share your faith with others, it can literally change peoples lives.

What’s your story?

Maybe you live in a country were most people already heard about Jesus, so in what way can you testify about Him? By sharing your own story. People might not be interested to hear about God, but they are interested in you. So if you share what God is doing in your life, if you can give a testimony about how alive Jesus is to you, they might be more interested. So what is your story? What is your testimony? You might be thinking that your story isn’t worth telling, maybe you grew up in a Christian home, you always went to church and one day it really touched your heart and you gave your life to Jesus. You might find that boring and always love to hear about these radical, life changing testimonies where a drug addict wanted to end his life and an angel appeared in a dream and right there and then Jesus saved that person. And thank God that these things happen and lives are transformed and radically changed. But it’s not the story of most of us and that’s okay. Because our story doesn’t end with the line, “and then I gave my life to Jesus”, it just starts there!

It’s just the beginning

That’s the point where your story begins, where the Holy Spirit enters your life and where you learn to grow in a personal walk with God. This is where you will walk and fall, but where you get up and learn more. It is were you see Gods providing hand and you start learning His still voice guiding you. It’s the everyday little testimonies that get people thinking they could have that too. Where they see you are at peace when others are worrying, where you trust in God instead of your finances, where you show forgiveness where others turn away. God wants you to be His witness of everything He is doing in your life. He doesn’t only want the credits for the big things, but also in the small things. Do we praise Him and give Him the glory when we feel comforted or led by His peace? Do we point to heaven when God places us at the right time in the right place?

Be a witness

Look back on your day or week, see what God has done and is doing and testify to others. When you talk about things that happened that week, is God part of your story? Do you recognize Him and give Him the glory for it? If I’m chatting with my mom or a friend and were just evaluating our week, I always have something to tell about my kids. Their names are always in the story because they are a big part of my life, but isn’t God a big part either? You and I have so much more to share about God then what we do now. And when you have walked with God for quiet a while you maybe forgot how life changing it was to see other people having a living relationship with Jesus and involving Him in every step, how you envied them. You know, people need to hear and see that God is a reality today and in your life! Be a witness!
