“For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace” (Romans 8:6). “For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting” (Galatians 6:8). Each of us would be in the first category of these two verses, had Jesus not offered us a way out. Because of the completed work on the cross, we have the opportunity for salvation. Once we have said yes to Jesus, we will want to continue following Him because His way brings life and peace. Every day, we must consciously choose to center the pieces of our lives on God.
What controls your thoughts, control your feelings, and what controls your feelings controls your joy.
Sometimes we tidy up our outside while holding on to emotional garbage. We hold on to thoughts that hurt our hearts, our relationships, and our peace of mind. However, my beloved, you can/should do something about those thoughts. What controls your thoughts, control your feelings, and what controls your feelings controls your joy.
I have found the easiest way to know if the thought should be tossed or kept is to answer this question: does this thought bring life and peace or does it bring death? Death of peace, death of hope, death of confidence, death of faith, or death of unity.
When we realize we are holding on to something negative do whatever it takes to throw it in the trash where it belongs! I struggle with this multiple times a day and rebuke them often. Remember this: “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen” (Matthew 28:20).
Notes:
1.) To be carnally minded means to have one’s life dominated by sin.
2.) To be spiritually minded is to be controlled by the Holy Spirit.
3.) Soweth to his flesh means to conduct oneself by the evil dictates and desires of the sinful nature, thus practicing the deeds of the flesh.
4.) Shall…reap destruction means be requited with eternal destruction.
5.) Soweth to the Spirit means to live by His enabling help (prompting and leading).
6.) Shall…reap everlasting life means rewarded with eternal life.
