Don’t you just hate when you lose something? Whether it’s your keys, an article of clothing, or a purse or wallet, it can become an all-day mission to find something you know you have misplaced.
Uncovering
In my bathroom my countertop is crammed full of beauty products, makeup, and jewelry; this is my nemesis, the place things so easily get lost. Usually, in my case, I find my lost item hidden under something else and that in order to find it, I needed to do some uncovering. I realize my relationship with the Lord can become a sort of lost and find mission too sometimes. Some days I stop and ask myself, how did I lose my peace? Where is God’s voice? How did I lose my joy? How is it that I let my busyness and to-do list take place of my much-needed time with Him?
Jesus says in Jeremiah 29:13 that we will seek Him and find Him when we seek Him with all our heart. So, the sad reality when God feels distant, is I’ve stopped seeking. I have learned through many years of walking with Jesus that there is a simple remedy to my problem.
A New Mission
Laying aside any feelings of guilt or self-condemnation, I start on my mission to find Him again. With the help of the Holy Spirit, I can uncover the things that concealed my relationship with Him. Then I can repent and get my priorities back in line, which is, Jesus first and nothing else. Once again then, I come back to the realization that I cannot do this thing called life on my own, I need Him so desperately.
When we find something beautiful to us, it is worth the time and energy it took to find it. Jesus is the pearl of great price, the One we give our lives for. One day as I was pursuing looking for my missing earring, I heard God speak into my heart. I
felt that He was saying that He wanted me to put as much effort and persistence into pursuing my relationship with Him as I was the missing earring. How much more valuable is He than anything else we are missing? He is our life and breath. In Him, we live and move and have our being.
Dear sister, if you have displaced your relationship with Jesus, don’t wait, search out to find Him again. He is there
just waiting to be uncovered. He wants your heart and an ongoing relationship with you. You don’t have to beat yourself up by what you did, just run back. Like the prodigal son, He is just waiting for you, standing ready to embrace you in His arms of love. You are never too far gone for Him because His love is stronger than anything. Like my missing piece of jewelry, He is beneath all the clutter and chaos in your life, waiting to be uncovered.
Psalm 9:10 Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.
