Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Colossians 3:1-4
Our desires
We, as children of God, have been given the glorious privilege and amazing opportunity to be pure and fully devoted to our Lord Jesus Christ. However, we often struggle with worldly ways, ungodly desires, and selfish longings. Many of our desires are not altogether wrong, but they can quickly turn into idolatry if our focus turns away from the Lord.
Desires can quickly turn into idolatry
Idolatry is described as anything you worship in place of the Lord and it takes up precedence in your heart; the worship of something or someone other than God; abandoning the way of God for something else. Idolatry is mentioned repeatedly in the bible and warns of the temporal, but more importantly the eternal consequences this can have on an individual’s life.
His desire for your Life
When your heart turns from the Lord in this manner you are then focused on your own desires and your own longings and self quickly becomes the priority. Instead, the Lord wants you to seek Him and what He desires for you and your life. His plan and purpose are perfect for you and for His kingdom and glory. God needs to be your greatest desire and He must come first! It must be your heart’s cry and desire to know God intimately and to wash your mind in His Word daily. In doing so, the relationship between you and the Lord becomes deeper, stronger, and more precious. Your love for Him will continually grow and you will also begin to trust Him more and more. The Lord is so incredibly worthy and greatly deserving of your attention, praise, and worship. Let us then live in a way that glorifies His Name. Let us continually be asking, seeking, and knocking for this desire to deepen in all our hearts.

What is your focus on?
What do you think is priority and important in your life? What is on the throne of your heart; money, career, family, earthly things? Or are you setting your heart on things above? The bible states in Matthew 6:21, “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be”. Where and what your heart is focused on will make a world of difference in your satisfaction and in your joy. So, let us, therefore, set our hearts upon Him and rejoice in Him. Let us put God’s good pleasure first and not our personal happiness. And remember: Always be grateful and content in all circumstances; come what may. The Lord is faithful and may He receive all the glory.
